Well, there's what I think *should* happen and what actually happens :)

I agree with you 100% in what skills are more important in my day job.

However, I did have full-on coding interviews with every company that I interviewed with... Microsoft, Google, Facebook, Apple, Uber, every single one had those. So the investment did pay off.

I also had design questions, and leadership-related questions. But you still need to prove you can code.
