If the HM did not want a person, I did not want to force the candidate into that position, simply because I would be bringing a candidate into a role where their manager literally didn't think they could succeed... feels like setting them up for failure. I want your boss to be excited about you joining their team!

What I DID do (a few times actually) is when I felt the candidate was a good amazonian but the HM and I agreed they were not a good fit for the position, I asked the recruiters to find a different team for them. Since a hire is an Amazon hire, they can technically go to any team. So I did do this a few times, and it turned out well.
